Unfortunately, I had to escape to Coronado without Kyle for the first visit. I took the Flagship ferry across the bay and stepped off within moments of Coronado Coffee Company.
My original plan was the Barebells Vanilla Protein Latte, but it must be popular because they had already run out. I switched to the Coconut Cabana, made with coconut, macadamia, white mocha and cold foam.
Because Kyle could not make the first visit, the team gave me a free drink coupon for him. That made the punch card the perfect excuse to come back together and try the viral Cocoa Puff latte.
That second visit settled it. Kyle absolutely loved the Cocoa Puff latte. I started with a taste and may have stolen half before it was over.
We highly, highly, highly recommend the Cocoa Puff latte.
Come early and the crowd is mostly bikers getting their exercise in. It quickly shifts to a mix of locals and tourists, and you are lucky if you arrive without a line.
From a coffee cart to the Ferry Landing.
Owner Luis Madrid started working with coffee at 17, pushing a cart before sunrise to help support his family. At 20, he bought his first café with savings he had kept in a shoebox. He later purchased Coronado Coffee Company on March 16, 2020, just as the COVID shutdown began.
What makes it differentOne solo escape and one very good return.
Coconut Cabana
Coconut, macadamia, white mocha and cold foam. This was my backup after the Barebells Vanilla Protein Latte sold out.
Cocoa Puff Latte
Kyle absolutely loved this one. I only planned to taste it and may have ended up stealing half.
What we would order again: The Cocoa Puff latte, and next time I should probably get my own.
The details worth knowing
It is steps from the ferry
The walk up coffee stand is inside Coronado Ferry Landing at 1201 First Street, only steps from where Flagship drops you off.
Bring your bike
The early crowd is full of bikers. Bikes are allowed on Coronado ferries at no extra charge when space permits.
Use commuter hours
Daily commuter sailings currently run from 4:50 to 8:30 AM on the Broadway Pier route, excluding select weekday holidays.
Flagship SD tip: When I rode during commuter hours, I received a complimentary ticket to return later that day. Policies can change, so confirm this benefit and the current schedule before leaving. The ferry ride is about 15 minutes.
