We stopped at the La Jolla Philz during Kyle’s peanut butter latte hunt. Their Peanut Butter Latte was seasonal, so of course we had to try it. It was solid—especially if you already love Philz—but it was not the drink that ended the hunt.
I went straight for the Mint Mojito Iced Coffee. The fresh mint makes it bright and cooling, while the cream keeps it from tasting too sharp. It is still my favorite Philz drink and the one I would send a first-timer toward.
The biggest surprise? Both iced drinks showed up in Philz hot paper cups.
It feels wrong for a second because the cup says hot coffee, but there really is ice inside. Philz brews and customizes each cup rather than building the menu around espresso, and you choose how sweet and creamy you want the drink.
The next San Diego shop is coming to RaDD on the downtown waterfront. Philz still has not posted an exact opening date, but we walked by this week, saw the buildout moving along and watched people training inside. That makes “coming soon” feel genuinely soon, even if it is not an official date yet.

Twenty five years before the first shop.
Phil Jaber opened a convenience store in San Francisco’s Mission District in 1978. Philz says he spent the next twenty five years learning, experimenting and blending coffee before opening the first Philz Coffee on January 1, 2003. That long trial period still shows up in the brand’s focus on customized blends and one cup at a time brewing.
One corner store became Philz CoffeeOur La Jolla order.
Mint Mojito Iced Coffee
Fresh mint, creamy sweetness and iced coffee. This is still my Philz favorite.
Peanut Butter Latte
Rich and dessert-like. A solid stop in Kyle’s peanut butter latte hunt, but the hunt continues.
Before your Philz run.
This visit was La Jolla
We visited the Philz at 8849 Villa La Jolla Drive, not the not-yet-open RaDD shop.
Iced drink, hot cup
Do not panic when your iced coffee arrives in a paper hot cup. Ours did too—and yes, there was ice inside.
RaDD looks close
The official page still says Coming Soon. We saw people training inside this week, so it looks close, but there is no confirmed public opening date yet.
Upcoming RaDD address: 825 North Harbor Drive, Suite 118, San Diego. We will update this guide when Philz confirms the opening date.
