Don’t move to San Diego. You will never have enough time to do everything this city offers. FIT took over The Rady Shell for its fifth annual Pride Yoga event and brought hundreds of us together for a free sunset yoga session with a live symphony.

We brought one of our friends, rolled out our mats and immediately knew this would feel different from a normal studio class. The lawn was filled with Pride colors, the bay was behind us and the people kept the evening from ever feeling formal.

This was one of those nights that reminded us how lucky we are to call San Diego home.

We left relaxed, grateful and genuinely impressed that an experience this memorable had been offered to the community for free.

BEHIND THE STOP

A permanent home after 15 summers

Before The Rady Shell opened, the San Diego Symphony spent 15 years building and removing a temporary waterfront venue here each summer. Its permanent home now hosts concerts, community events and experiences like Pride Yoga with the bay and skyline as part of the setting.

THE EXPERIENCE

Victoria made the class an absolute hoot

Victoria from FIT was not remotely PG rated. She was unfiltered, raw and completely herself, using dirty humor to get hundreds of strangers laughing without judgment between poses.

02

Live symphony

Practicing to live orchestral music made the event feel completely different from a studio class.

03

Pride community

Hundreds of San Diegans filled the lawn with movement, color and connection.

04

Sunset setting

The Shell, the bay and the changing sky were all part of the experience.

The orchestra gave the night its scale, but Victoria gave it its personality. We remember the laughter as much as the movement, music and sunset.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

The details worth knowing

01

Register early

FIT Yoga events at The Rady Shell are free, but registration is required and space can fill.

02

Bring your own gear

Bring a yoga mat, water and sun protection. A light layer is helpful once the breeze comes off the bay.

03

Skip the parking stress

Parking is limited. Walking, biking, the trolley and the Coronado Ferry can make arrival easier.

Our local tip: you can still enjoy the waterfront outside The Rady Shell during many events. We often see people use the surrounding benches, bring charcuterie and snacks and create their own simple date night while listening from outside. Views and sound vary, so follow any posted event restrictions and buy a ticket when you want the complete experience.

Pride Yoga is a special annual event, so the date, live music and exact format may change. Check FIT and The Rady Shell for current registration details before going.
