We wanted to try Solana Coffee because it gave us a reason to walk into The Granger Hotel. The second we stepped inside, the coffee stopped being the main event.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The rich colors, vintage details and intimate Parlor Room made us want to slow down and look around. We also found the art space, where we watched creativity happening in real time.

We shared one coffee and neither of us was impressed enough to order it again. During our visit there were no seasonal choices, and nothing on the coffee menu gave us the kind of memorable flavor we were hoping to find.

The coffee was the excuse. The Granger Hotel was the experience.

We would still walk in again, but our next visit would have a different plan. We want to see the Parlor Room later in the day when coffee gives way to cocktails and experience more of the hotel that made the stop feel special.

BEHIND THE STOP

Coffee inside a hotel built for gathering

Solana is a women owned San Diego coffee company using direct trade beans roasted locally. Its Granger residency brings morning coffee into the hotel’s Parlor Room, a gathering space connected to a property whose story dates to 1904.

WHAT WE TRIED

One shared coffee was enough for this visit.

OUR ORDER

One Shared Iced Coffee

We split a single coffee. It did not leave enough of an impression for either of us to want the same order again.

What we would order again: Not the coffee we shared. We would choose something different or return for the cocktail experience instead.

BEFORE YOU GO

The details worth knowing

01

Know the coffee hours

Solana currently serves in the Parlor Room from 7 AM to 4 PM on weekdays and 7:30 AM to 4 PM on weekends.

02

Return after coffee

The same Parlor Room becomes an intimate cocktail lounge later in the day, which is the experience we want to try next.

03

Look for the art

The hotel has an Open Art Studio. We saw art being created during our visit, but the studio itself is listed as an amenity included with a hotel stay.

Current menu: Espresso drinks, matcha, loose leaf tea, rotating pastries and a small brew bar are listed online. Hours and menu offerings can change.
