There are wellness studios you visit, and then there are spaces you immediately feel. Valkyrie Yoga was one of those places for us. We walked in for a hosted Hatha Yoga class and noticed right away that the room was not asking anyone to perform.
Natural light, bamboo flooring, plants, warm star shaped lights and no mirrors made it easier to slow down and stay connected to our breath. We left grounded, then stayed in the garden longer than planned.
We came for a yoga class and left understanding why people treat Valkyrie like a sanctuary.
Both of us would return for the feeling of being invited to pause.
A studio built as a living legacy
Founder Agnete Sandahl Hybertsen created Valkyrie after her mother passed away unexpectedly and left her a small amount of money. Her mother was a poet and a dreamer, and Agnete used the gift to build a space that could keep touching other people’s lives.
What stayed with us
Valkyrie extends beyond traditional yoga with Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, breathwork, sound healing and changing community events. Its Men’s Circle combines meditation, tea, healthy expression and connection, with the next date still to be announced.
Hatha Yoga
A slower practice gave us time to hold poses, breathe and pay attention to how each movement felt.
The atmosphere
Plants, natural light, bamboo flooring and no mirrors made the room feel calm rather than competitive.
The garden
The outdoor area gave us somewhere to linger instead of stepping directly back into a busy day.
Local community
Employee ownership, community events and shelf space for local makers make support feel built into the studio.
Part of my own breathwork story
This place has a deeper connection for me, Lana. I completed my breathwork facilitator training at Valkyrie, and that experience helps shape the private one on one breathwork sessions I offer outside the studio.
Valkyrie also carries my book, Morning Coffee with Lana. You can pick up a copy here or order it through Lulu for shipping.
The details worth knowing
Check the schedule
Offerings include yoga, breathwork and sound healing, so choose the class that fits what you need that day.
Arrive a little early
Give yourself time to settle in, ask about a mat if needed and enjoy the studio before class begins.
Look for the intro offer
New students may find a first week unlimited special. Confirm the current price and terms when booking.
Our tip: do not schedule yourself so tightly that you have to race away afterward. Leave a few extra minutes for the garden. That quiet pause became part of what we remember most.
Valkyrie is in the heart of Ocean Beach, so street parking can take a little patience. Class times and introductory offers can change; check the current schedule online before heading over.
